Penang Assam Laksa

This is the Penang Assam Laksa my mom cooked the other day. The picture is quite blur because I took it with my Sony Ericsson W910i hp. The phone itself is not bad but in term of picture quality, it's damn sucks!!

Anyway, my mom cooked the broth with big chunks of fish meat. All big chunks of fish meat overwhelming the whole laksa broth and noodles inside. I'm not sure of whole ingredients that she used but I can recongnised a few. Tamarind (assam), Polygonum leafs (daun laksa) and ginger flower (bunga kantan). Without these 3 ingredients, your laksa cannot be known as laksa, it should only known as curry noodle instead....

Of course no Penang Assam Laksa is complete without a spoonful of heh ko or prawn paste. Dont smell it, just scoop and let it melt in hot gravy. Otherwise, you'll start looking for any dead rats nearby...haha

Eat full nothing to do @ hometown

I'm at my hometown now being treat like a princess. My mom cooks everyday and I just need to make an order the day before and voila...amazingly the foods are serve the next day, such a bliss huh? Wahahah

Mom made kuih kodok (fried banana fritter) yesterday for afternoon tea. If you wonder why it called in such a way, the only explanatory is that the finish product turned out to be so ugly and it takes the image of a toad (kodok in malay).

They are basically banana mashed up with flour, eggs, grated coconut, bit of sugar and salt. It taste even better if you use overriped banana, you know so ripe until the skins turn black and lot of tiny bugs flocking around it. When you see it, you'll almost say...aiya, cannot eat d la, can throw in dustbin d...
If you think all vendors have the same thinking as you well, think again....do you really think that they will throw all the banana away just because of the skin turned black and some maybe rotten inside? Nahh...i dont think so..

Sorry didnt manage to take pictures because once it was served, me and my nephew attacked it immediately. He is more glutton than me....hehe, and he is only 4 years old.

Tomorrow my mom is gonna make penang asam laksa!! Headmaster's face begin to hovering above my head de.........

My new shoe

I've developed a lower back pain recently especially when I'm walking or standing too much. Last week when my cousin sister came to KL, we went for a non-stop shopping spree for 2 days. The first day was still ok as we had pedicure session at Sunway Pyramid and sat down as frequently as possible. But still my back was pain.

I thought the sandal that I'm wearing was the culprit. So the next day I changed to another sandal. Too bad, after walking for half an hour, not only my back was pain, my heel was cramping like hell.....

And then......I.......thought.........I NEED A NEW SHOE.........

I've tried Scholl, Clarks and Hush Puppies but all comfortable shoes have one weakness point, they look soooo freaking ugly.......wtf!! Is this the price that I have to pay to get a comfortable shoe with no back pain and cramping heel? Oh gosh! And not to mention all these freaking ugly creature is not cheap!

Anyway, jk and I went to Midvalley few days ago as he wanted to watch Fast and Furious 4. Oh well, boy's stuff! Actually I'm just so-so about it. I even suggested to him that why dont he go and watch it alone while I can go shopping around....hahahaha......

Are you human talking like that? How to be ppl's wife one....LOLOLOLOL

At last of course we watched it together. But the movie really boring! Even jk commented that car racing scene was so limited. More like some kinda "thief-drug-police-bang-bang" movie more than car racing movie. Oh well, that's another story.....

Before the movie started, we walked around looking for my shoe. As I've mentioned to jk before that I need a new shoe. (He cannot walk around without and purposes....see? MEN :D)

We went to Clarks and this was what he choose for me, a striking-funky-red-pinky shoe. I was like: Huh? Want to be that pink meh?? But as I tried it on, I feel like I'm walking on a white cloud in the sky dancing ballet, twisting and turning....hahaha....

Pink indeed is a great colour. It makes me feel like I'm thirteen again!! Hahaha

As he was paying at the counter:

Jk: Never in my life I'd pay RMxxx for a shoe....

Me: You know what? Me too...Luckily I got somebody buy for me....wakakakakakaka......

As what clarks description said:
This shoe also has the added feature of the Active Air insole; this consists of a network of air chambers in the sole which allow air to circulate with every step; absorbs shock impact as the heel strikes the ground and gives energy return at the end of every step.
No wonder I was walking on cloud..............

One pot cooking

My favaurite food these day consists of one pot cook or one pot meal. First because I'm the only one who ate lunch at home, second because there are not much cleaning up/washing up to do after that. Talking about lazy, huh?

Anyway, tofu has been my favourite especially Japanese tofu. The silky smooth texture offer the best comfort that I needed, anything from steam, fried or steel-pan. Once we dined at this 'tai chow' kopitiam and we kinda chit-chatting with the boss while taking orders. We asked for steel pan tofu and guess what he said. He said that is the most silly thing you can order in a restaurant. Of course we asked why. And he explained just because one additional steel-pan is being used instead of plate, the price whopping up so much.

Point to ponder, eh?

For this particular lunch, I choose Japanese tofu cut into pieces, coated with corn flour and fried it with small amount of olive oil. Digging every nook and corner in the fridge, took out everything that I think can be added in. I found carrots, french beans, potatoes and crab sticks. And everything goes into the wok.....

It was a comforting satisfying lunch indeed....

Cousin sister came,

Woke up early in morning,

Watched movie till wee hour,

Walked till foot pain,

Good food in stomach,

Dr. Fong's face lingering in mind,

Shouted at me "Watch your weight for godsake!!"

Going be vegetarian for the rest of my 2 weeks,
