I get to eat bird's saliva...nicey

Bird Nest Soup is a delicacy in Chinese cuisine. Known to be very nutritious food around rich tai-tais, high in calcium, iron (mmm...just what I need...) and traditionally believe to provide health benefits.

I remember when I was small, my mom used to make bird nest soup very often. Me and my brother would be *forced* to eat, one bowl each. Once I remember my mom put too much rock sugar and soon after I've finished it, I had bad headache. I dont know why, maybe high sugar content caused the brain cell paralyzed or the other way round, too active until can't stop jumping inside my brain..) At the same time my brother felt the headache too. Since then I asked mom not to boil bird nest soup anymore. Silly me..... :D

Anyway, my mom said she will supply bird nest for me through out my whole pregnancy. Walau.... I quickly said thank you wor.....hahaha...so generous!

Well, I made bird nest soup yesterday. First the dried piece of bird nest need to soak in water for at least 3 or 4 hours. Sometimes I soaked overnight too...
Then boiled 2 cups of water on stove before pouring into slow cooker. As you know, slow cooker ma...if you boiled up the water, then cooking process will be faster (*wink) Put the piece of bird nest into slow cooker.

Cook for 2-3 hours and the soup is ready to be served. Dont forget to put in rock sugar. I like mine not too sweet. Need to wait for another week before I can make one again.... :D

Revealing....my...home...dining...chairs...

These were what we bought in Ikea few weeks ago...instead of baby cot. Haha....

Now my home have a decent dining table which cost much lower than other furniture selling outside. Believe or not, the table only cost RM90 and each chair cost RM29, (RM29 x 4=RM116).

Optional are the cushions which cost RM19.90...hehe...thinking about it, quite expensive also. Hey...chair made of wood only cost RM29 by the way..

But too bad, I like cushion on chair so we decided to have it as well... RM19.90 x 4 = RM 79.60

Whole set of dining table: RM 285.60

Cheap heh....and presentable also.. :D

Lunch @ Absolute Thai

We've been planning for ages to go to Ikea since day one they got this sales going on but jk seem so busy and dont have the time. Busy-bee..... until last saturday he finally make up his mind to at least make the effort to go by hook or by crook. Ikea having this sales only until end of last week....The reason why is because we need a baby cot. Other places like Jusco or Parkson or any other baby's fair, they are selling like RM800, RM900 and some over RM1000. My my... :o

So, when we reached Mutiara Damansara, as usual traffic was building up. Jammed all the way from the traffic light in front of Cineleisure up till Ikea's parking. Anyway, we managed to find a parking in click of second thou...lucky lucky :D

First thing first...LUNCH!! Luckily I had my breakfast at home, milk and maggi mee if not I'll definitely dead and cursing all the way...Oh yea, pregnant lady expert in cursing :D

We had lunch at Absolute Thai situated inside IKANO.

Upon seated, the menu was ready on the table. Eh, this is good. At least we dont have to 'yapping' for the waiter to bring menu to us....you know, like in Pappa Kopitiam. Sigh...

Jk ordered Thai Iced Coffee which is sooooo damn good. It's has an unique flavour into it. Definitely not the usual Nescafe stuff we had back at home. Trust me, order this if you're happen to dine here.
Sinful 'coffee monster' pretty decent today. So didnt order anything sinful... I ordered a pot of Jasmine Green Tea. I didnt manage to finish it because most of time, I'm sipping jk's iced coffee....hohohoho
Stir-fried chicken served with steamed rice topped with sunny side-up. Actually it's just stir fried chicken with rice tambah telur mata kerbau. RM13.50
Sunny side-up = telur goreng laaaaa......
Tasted quite good. Almost as same standard as if you're eating this in Bangkok. I think they add quite amount of fish sauce into it. I only eat half, half wallopped by jk and did I hear something about 'non-fish-eater'? LOL
Tom yum seafood with bee hoon in clear stock. They also have another version for thick base soup. But since the taste is below average, dont think this will come in mind again if we happen to eat here...

What happen at Ikea? I'll reveal that in my next post... :D

It's a .... :)

Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, tai yan (adult) and sai lou kor (children), after 5 months of wondering-and-hoping-it-is-a-girl-feeling-symptom, I want to show you all that it's got a kuku jiau (birdie) afterall....wahahahaha

It's a boy.....
Went for monthly check up and did a scanning which cost me RM220 yesterday in Subang. As I was laying down, my gynae scanned my tummy for baby's heart, kidney, stomach, spine and the same time measuring baby's skull, leg, hand. Not much conversation between my gynae and me actually during he did the scanning.

Here is some short conversation between us:

Me: So, that's the heart? (trying to get the gynae to explain to me)

Gynae: Yes..........(silent for long time)

Me: What is that?

Gynae: Kidney (silent again...with serious face facing the monitor and moving the 'thing' up and down on my tummy)

Me: (One look at the gynae's face, he really looks like some headmaster we had back in primary school...so stern and serious.....I better shut up :x)

Suddenly....

Gynae: It's a boy

Me: Hah?......Pardon?

Gynae: Boy, it's a boy...

Me: (*hand smacking forehead de)
Anyway, we are still happy because the most important thing is he'll be a healthy baby BOY...

American breakfast (my style)

This is mine..... Jk's portion...
Notice how big jk's portion compared to mine? He got 2 hash browns and 2 hotdogs. He should be singing halleluyah when he saw this coming.... :D

This morning both of us were so lazy and running out of ideas on where to have breakfast/lunch. One look at his face I already knew that he's gonna ask me the 'everyday-routine' question. Then I remember we still have left over gardenia bread which already past the expired date... dont worry, one day jek....LOL

A simple breakfast that I can whipped out in half and hour that served 2 (or 3) hungry and lazy bum...:D

A day out....

20th weeks

Yes...I'm now officially in my 2nd trimester now. Tummy is bulging, weight is increasing, movement getting slower even turning in bed is hard for me. All my finger also looks like hotdog until I cant wear my wedding band anymore. Sigh.....maybe I'll get a new one after birth? (am I? am I?...hinting la..what else)

Constantly I can feel the little bugger twist and turn inside my tummy. Sometimes vigorously kicking my bladder, cause me want to squirt pee pee in my pants...darn! :x Wait till you come out.

Anyway we went to Pavillion this morning. As usual jk need to be there for his meeting and I tagged along as I need to go to my consignment store in Wisma Cosway. Had a lousy lunch at this Taiwanese store that are famous for their street food. I ordered a bowl of oyster mee sua with a few pieces of blanch oysters and the mee sua in very thick starchy mixture. Jk ordered a Happy Lunch Box (as least he's happy after his lunch) consisted of rice with teriyaki sauce, a piece of de-boned fried chicken, century egg and a few pieces of tauhu.

I had a few spoonfuls but decided that it wont go thru my mouth anymore. It tasted like rotten fish and smell like one too. Maybe it came from the oysters. I started eyeing his lunch box instead....haha

Anyway, we compensated ourself with nice buns at Bread Talk.

Not so much variety they have there but that's not the problem, because I just know which one I needed.

Coffee braided walnut flakes (RM3.20) The smell heavenly infused with coffee (by now, anything smell like coffee, I will say it's nice :D). Jk also bought one for himself but after he ate it, he commented that it's only taste so-so. Price wise is not cheap thou.....With additional 30 cents you can have youself a nice plate of chicken rice from Ah Gung already.

Tomato sausage (RM3.20).With the name tomato, it sound so catchy huh? :D

Tasted just like any other sausage bun. Nothing special about it. The tomato sauce, errrr....I think Maggi tomato sauce taste better.

Homemade Egg Sandwich

Just received a call from my MIL in Singapore asking how am I getting on. She will call me every now and then just to make sure I'm getting enough nutrien, eating healthy, got make any chicken essence or not, which I did....ONCE :D

She also asked me to boil some tong sum, pak kei, gei chi and hong cho tea to drink. Said that suppose to replenish my blood.... Although i have no idea how's tong sum or pak kei looks like, I'm gonna try and look for it. Well, I'm a good DIL maaaaa...........

I made egg sandwich for my brunch yesterday. Jk went out super early, so early with his irritating alarm blasting non-stop and he woke me up in the process, darn! But as usual, it isnt very hard for me to fall asleep again. LOL

This is actually my first attempt into trying something new. Egg sandwich...how wrong could it be, right? It turned out to be very good indeed.

It's quite an easy job. All you need are egg, bread, cheese, some tomato sauce (I dont know why but I'm craze about tomato sauce right now which I didnt even touch last time) and some butter to spread on the bread.

I only remembered to take picture after I ate the other half. I'm hungry,ok?

Crack the egg into a bowl and add some pepper and salt for seasoning. Similar to scramble egg, pour the egg mixture into a frying pan, make sure the heat is set to LOW. Slowly let the heat cook it up.

After that, sandwich the egg between 2 piece of bread. Lay a slice of cheese on top and with some tomato sauce. Spread some butter on the outside of the breads, heat it up on the pan without any oil. Until both side are crispy brown and the cheese have melted, cut it into halves and voila....

....you'll have yourself a very delicious egg sandwich. What is better than handmade food, u tell me? (*wink)

Boring Breakfast

This morning jk need to go out early in the morning and left me at home with no kai kai = no breakfast. So, I went inside the kitchen to figure what to have for breakfast.....

Made myself milk with oats and a bowl of cereal....
Bought this from Giant Supermarket last month. Actually it comes in 6 variety boxes from Pristine, Yogood. The one that I'm having is Fruit and Nut Crunchy Muesli. Can you see a devil's icon at the 'g' alphabet? Cute hor...

All these 6 boxes doesn't come cheap thou. Each packet only contains 40g... Hardly fit quarter of my stomach and that's come with another 'food sucker' in my tummy as well.

After I pour it out from the packet...So pathetic. Taste wise is good with all those raisins and nuts but it does looks like I'm having chicken feed. LOL

Well, to reward my healthy breakfast, I'm muching on my homemade chocolate chips cookies. It turned out my healthy breakfast not so healthy afterall, hor? But well, who cares!! Wahahaha

Knn monster strike again?

Yea, that damn monster striked again yesterday. This time not a muffin monster, it's a cookie monster. I think it resemble abit like the cookie monster in Sesame Street. You know, with big yellow bird, Mr dracula, Elmo and stuffs like that. It used to be my favourite past time to watch Sesame Street when I was small. Really waiting for the time to turn on the television and with an ice cream in hand.....hahaha...

Anyway, I did Chocolate Chips Cookies yesterday. Well, you might be wondered where the hell I got those recipe from, right? That's easy, with a laptop and internet access, you can even make peking duck yourself at home. Provided you got those duck ready. No 'duck' delivery order on the internet. LOL..

It's real simple. Just creamed butter, sugar, eggs, vanilla essence, chocolate chips (no, I didnt get those from Caca and Footy, so it safe ok?), walnut chips and flour.

This is that you'll get at the end.

Looks so little hor, but I tell you with this size of cookie dough each time the tray goes into the oven, you can expect how long it's gonna take me.

See? Only enough to cater for 12 cookie at the same time. But seeing those cookies rising so nicely inside the oven, makes me so excited!! LOL

After a completing a few rounds, the cookie dough still look the same, as if it left untouched.

Leave it to cool off the rack. Not that I bias or something but it really smell like Amos Famous Cookies....hahaha

All those hard work until my back and my heel cracking and pain like hell....can only produce 2 container like this..... I think I better buy Amos Famous Cookies next time when cookie monster strike....

Sigh....

Simple lunch...yet very nutritious

Still remember the whole kampung chicken that made into chicken essence? Well, i didnt throw away the remaining chicken, instead I make some soup out of it. Last 2 days ago, I made ABC soup.

Carrots, tomatoes, potatoes, garlic, onions and abit of pepper seeds. The smell was so nice but too bad. Can't finish it. Throw away the remaining 30% of it just now. (Yes, jk...it's all your fault. :p)

To go with the soup, I made some koon lou mee with stir-fry fish slice and vegetarian-duck. I dont know why it called that, it doesnt looks like any part of the duck to me...
Actually it made from layer by layer of fu pei, alternated with some slice mushrooms and starch. Steam for a few minutes and let it cool. After that, deep fry it, cut it into slices and it ready to be served. Ohh...sorry hor, I only know the procedure, it's not me who do it...my expert aunt from Penang. I never fail to order this whenever they coming to my house. :)
Drizzled with some lingham's chili sauce and walau.....I'm so hungry now even when I'm writing this post. Too greedy, I made ma meen (double piece of dry mee) and I couldn't finish it either. Pregnant woman is like that, appetite change due to hormone. Oh yea....blame it on hormone then!

Blueberry Muffins

Muffin monster striked me yesterday ..... I dont know why but that urge kinda like 'let me have it or you'll die' kinda thing. Serious huh? :)

It's pretty hot out there but that's not gonna stop me from going out and bought all the stuffs needed to make one.

After had an early lunch at nearby coffeeshop, sent jk back to the office and I went to 'Bake with Yen' shop in Puchong. Picked up all the ingredient like self raising flour, vanilla essence, castor sugar, muffin cups. Then I saw some pre-packed raisin and I thought, what the heck, raisin inside the muffin instead of blurberry also nice wert (as requested by jk la) but still muffin monster said "I WANT BLUEBERRY MUFFIN!!".

Been searching for awhile for blueberry pre-packed but couldnt find it. I asked one of the salesgirl around there and she said "sudah habis la" Darn!! :x

How? How? Muffin monster grumbling again... "Blueberry...blueberry...."

Ha Ha...I saw they are also sell those pre-packed muffin mixed. Kiwi mixed, orange, banana, poppyseed and and yes! blueberry muffin mixed..... and YOU SAVE MY DAY....WTF!!.

Oh yes! happily...happily...

Came back home, transfered my Haier oven out from somewhere hidden, getting ready some melted butter, eggs and water - as per the instruction. Poured out the mixture from packet, add everything inside, stir-stir-stir and voila....it's ready to pour into muffin cups. Oh...this is so easy. Even Caca know how to do this.... :) lolololol

Baking inside the oven but alas! the batter spilled out all over the cups. I must have put too much batter inside. Who cares.... this is my first time baking muffins, amateur ma...

Tadaa....after 20 minutes, the muffins ready to be served.

I wallopped 3 muffins at one go...and muffins monster said " burppppssss...ooppssss....."
hahaha... another happy day :D
